Being such a total newbie here, I hate to make suggestions...but have you
tried moving cdrom #2 to hdb? Seems that I recall seeing in a HOWTO
somewhere that if you have 2 IDE cdroms, one of them needed to be primary
slave...

   |
   |'ello.
   |
   |I'm getting a bit of a problem mounting my 2nd cdrom in
   |SuSE 6.2 (installed from one of the eval CDs from the
   |expo).
   |
   |They're two identical 8x ATAPI cdroms, IDE controllers
   |configured like so:
   |
   |hda - primary hd
   |hdb - open
   |hdc - cdrom, works
   |hdd - cdrom, does not work
   |
   |hdd is the problem. I take two CDs that I know work, and
   |put them in hdc and hdd. I can mount hdc, but hdd gives
   |me a 'mount: no medium found' message.
   |
   |Reverse the disks, the disk that was in hdd now mounts
   |fine in hdc, and the disk in hdc does not mount in hdd.
   |The cdroms act exactly the same.
   |
   |I find this odd, because SuSE 6.0 handeled this setup
   |with no problems whatsoever. Heres even more info:
   |
   |Very recent motherboard... one of those Abit B-
   |something-6R2's.
   |
   |/dev/cdrom -> hdc
   |/dev/cdrom2 -> hdd
   |
   |equevelent fstab entries for both 'roms, heres one:
   |/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0
   |other one has "cdrom2" in both instead.
   |
   |/dev/
   |hdc, major 22, minor 0
   |hdd, major 22, minor 64 (I guess ls -l lists maj/minor in
   |order)
   |
   |dmesg's of interest:
   |
   |it detects them fine, I guess:
   |hdc: 685A, ATAPI CDROM drive
   |hdd: 685A, ATAPI CDROM drive
   |
   |where it gets interesting:
   |
   |hdc: DSC timeout
   |hdc: timeout waiting for DMA
   |hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
   |hdc: DMA disabled
   |hdc: ATAPI reset complete
   |ATAPI device hdc:
   | Error: Unit attention -- (Sense key=0x06)
   | Power on, reset or bus device reset occured --
   |(asc=0x29, ascq=0x00)
   |
   |...
   |
   |cdrom: open failed.
   |VFS: Disk change detected on device ide1(22,64)
   |cdrom: open failed.
   |VFS: Disk change detected on device ide1(22,64)
   |
   |Which shows me frantically changing CDs and trying to
   |mount them. Theres a couple other similar messages
   |without "cdrom: open failed" that show (22, 0) which I
   |suppose is the working rom.
   |
   |Checking this out closer, it occurs that the DMA may be
   |the problem. But I haven't touched the setup since SuSE
   |6.0, when it worked. Bah.
   |
   |Thanks for any help.
