Are you using a GUI? Are you using a GUI ppp dialer? If so, then the dialer
should have a handy-dandy modem volume slider that you can adjust down. I am
still familiarizing myself with GNOME, but I can tell you that the KDE ppp
dialer (kppp) has a slider that when slid all the way to the left will make
that modem shutup completely and never bug you again, unless you miss the
sound of its voice. Modem volume is not a static setting, but rather is set
at each dialing session when the dialer program initializes the modem. I'm
trying to make the answer as complicated as possible, but I'm just not doing
very well. Sorry. Can anyone else help me out?
