Ooh--that *is* brutal...but wait! You might be in luck. grap is/was a
program that helped you create graphs for use with troff. But until just
yesterday, nobody had bothered to write a free software replacement for
it, so you were screwed unless you could buy a copy of the DWB from
AT&T. But check out:

Somebody has apparently just put together a port of grap which might be
useful for something. (It says "freebsd", but I'm willing to bet this
is basically portable to Linux, if that's what you need.)
By the way, this is one case where my usual advice to just use a search
engine could be horrible; searching for "grap" alone turns up so many
obvious typos that you'd be hard pressed to know what to do.
