The problem that we have with Melissa in the labs on campus isn't with
spreading by email. It probably started with one or two people who DID
get it via email. He or she worked on a document in Word and probably
took it to the labs to print it. That document would then infect that
lab computer. The virus scanning software (at least on the PCs) really
isn't (wasn't?) up to par so it doesn't catch the virus. Next time
someone else sits down at that computer his or her document is infected,
and it will infect every computer that it is opened up on. So, there are
a lot of Typhoid Marys running arond campus with disks full of Melissa,
infecting every computer they use. This spreads to the labs in the
residence halls, to computers in frat houses, to peoples' computers at
home, etc etc etc.

So, that's the Melissa story as seen on campus. Sorry for the rant. :)
