OK, if you want it to work under x windows, you should consult the xfree86
web page, where I found a link in the faq for beta banshee and v3 support

BTW, it is virtually impossible to use 16MB of vram for framebuffer only
(2d)  you would have to run at like 2400x2400 resolution at true color,
and I don't htink there is yet a monitor ca[abl;e of such a feet.  All
that video memory is for Framebuffer + Z buffer +TEXTURE MEMMORY.  I
believe 16MB is enough to run 3D at true colour at 1600x1200 resolution.
Of course a banshee doesn't have enough horsepower to put up decent
numbers at such a high resolution.  The signifivant chunck of that 16MB is
for textrue memory only.  I hope this helps in some way.
