Ryan,
Have you tried running any other programs that access the modem? Minicom
is a simple (rather esoteric, IMHO) terminal emulator that allows you to
issue AT commands to the modem. "AT" should bring up an "OK", "ATZ"
should reset the modem and give "OK", and "ATDT 1234567" should dial a
number. Of course, I expect minicom will not run because it will think
the modem is busy, as well.
Another option is seyon, an X-based program that does basically the same
stuff. However, I found minicom more useful when installing my new 56K
Zoom.
In Fvwm95, either can be run from "left-click > Programs > Networking".
Or, in any environment, by just typing "minicom" or "seyon" at a shell
prompt.
