Okay, I'm a newbie myself, but have you tried connecting to a four-byte IP
address? For instance, http://128.206.2.252/ is the IBM "Internet
Connection Server for AIX". This is one of Mizzou's Domain Name Servers,
something that *may* not be configured correctly in your system. Check
/etc/resolv.conf to see if you have any entries there. If not, then your
computer simply can't find "showme.missouri.edu" or whatever because it
doesn't know where to go to get the IP address of that system. My
resolv.conf file is something like:
nameserver 128.206.2.252
...(two more DNS entries, I believe)...
search missouri.edu
(sorry, my girlfriend left the pc running Windows, so that's what I'm in
right now)
The last line allows you to be lazy like me and just connect to
"showme"--it resolves the rest.
I'm pretty much taking a shot in the dark here. Paul Suda helped me with
my PPP connection today, and this is one thing we had to look at.
