Well, I think most everyone will agree that the Alternative Computing Fair
was a HUGE success!! I think it is safe to say that we had over 200
people show up to the event...some were even from out of the
state(Illinois, Kansas). Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a
success by donating the time, equipment, and money needed to make it
happen. Anyone see us on the 10pm news:) Now that the event is over,
there is even more for our organization to do:
1. We need to finally become an official organization! I will implement
this initiative this week, I promise. Not only must we become official
here at MU, but we also need to register with GLUE and other entities that
recognize LUG's throughout the world. I will keep you posted on how this
progresses.
2. We need to have an installfest once we recover from the exhaustion of
the Fair. I am thinking it should be about the first or second week after
spring break. Let me know if you have a strong opinion about when this
should take place.
3. We need to manage our mailing list. After yesterday, we accumulated
at least 30 new members, pushing our total membership near the 130
barrier. With this growth will come a large surge in mail over the list
and I know some of you won't like that. Hence, we need to find a solution
to manage this growth. One solution is to split into 2 mailing lists, one
just for announcments and general information, and another for the normal
discussions. Another solution is to create news lists or to develop some
sort of web site based posting system. There are many solutions to this
problem, but we need to choose one soon and implement it.
That is all for now. I have to study for a change.
