Your flippin' nuts.  What are you talking about?  There is $600 per day
per employee in overhead?  Please do the math.  Let's say they work for 5
days per week and 52 weeks per year, that's 260 days times $600 per day
which equals $156,000 per year.  That's "about right" for what?

No, I am not NUTS!. You clearly have no idea what payroll taxes and workers compensation costs do you? Do a little research on the costs of protecting your employees working in a flooded out region and get back to me. I know for a fact that workers compensation in California for a heavy equipment company cost the company 24% of the salary of the employees. I would guess, though I do not know, that the costs for working in New Orleans was a lot more than that.

How much do you think the company paid per day in overhead for the equipment they supplied each person who had to work in that area? Do you think those suits they wear are cheap? The respirators? Are those cheap? Do the employees reuse them day after day?

All of these things have to come out of that $900 per employee per day. How about payroll taxes? How much did the company have to pay over what the witholdings were for each employee? Do you know that? What is the rate of payroll taxes on $300 per day?

You are completely wacky.  "When you factor everything in" includes
factoring in an insatiable need for massive profits.  What kind of
argument is that?

Profits are relative Mike, geez, that is something a first year business student would know, certainly someone who is as educated as you would know that. I am not defending Bechtel here as much as I am saying if a person is making $300 per day, the company should be making $900 for that employee.

Case in point. At my work, I make around $300 per day, my company charges $1480 per day for my services. Now, we do not have the luxury of being able to charge me out at a full 8 hours per day, so my average income to the company per day comes out to $975 per day. We are not making insane profits on that, there is a lot of overhead and costs that you clearly have no idea about. In the end, about 28% of the 975 per day is margin that goes to the bottom line. Is that too much? Apparently in your opinion a company that has any profitability at all is evil.

Here's yet another little story about Bechtel:

Oh, so it is bad to make money for work being performed? Do you think companies go into business to give their services away Mike? That is a typical point of view from a liberal perspective, what would you rather see happen? Maybe we should send in the peace corp to rebuild Iraq?

You make no sense, and the story you posted is idiotic, if it was not for the possibility to make a profit, Iraq would be worse off than it is now. Even this article does not have a problem with the amount of money paid out, they  don't like the fact that the company got the deal without an open bidding process. Blah blah blah, overall this article is nothing but a liberal diatribe filled with idiocy. One paragraph says all anyone needs to know, if you read this article critically.

On April 17, Bechtel received one of the first and largest of the rebuilding contracts in Iraq. Worth $680 million over 18 months, the contract includes the rebuilding, repair and/or assessment of virtually every significant element of Iraq's infrastructure, from power generation facilities to electrical grids to the municipal water and sewage systems. The contract was granted in backroom deals without open and transparent bidding processes and the content remains hidden behind a veil of secrecy. The contract has not been publicly disclosed to American taxpayers, who will be paying the majority of the bill.
OH wait, if it has not been publicly disclosed, how does the writer of this article know about it? And now, has it not been disclosed, since they are writing about it. Stupidity and not worth the time to read.
