I have mixed feelings about this, as likely do others, however agree with Mike in that a fetus really is a parasite in that it completely depends on the mother's body.
Seems like the question of "when does a fetus become a person" is a classic topic of debate.

One important difference is that a fetus is not a person. Also, the fetus
is totally dependent on the body of the mother for its survival. If the
mother doesn't kill the fetus, but simply has it removed, then it will
die. She won't have killed it -- it's just not an independent person and
it cannot live on its own.
I know we won't all agree on this! Your argument is valid, but there is a
valid counterargument too. So in my book both sides make sense and I have
a position that I think offers the best solution: Legal abortion until 5
months gestation, beyond 5 months only for medical reasons (life of the
mother or extreme fetal illness).
