Since when did it become a racial hate crime to speak out against a
religion?
Apparently France does not have a first ammendment equivalent.
Lack of a real first amendment is certainly one thing I would not like
to see us emulate. I could go either way on the 1% tax to support
culture. But you seem to have a long list of issues with France, but I
am not sure what they are. Could you elaborate?
Ha! Of course you know what to expect next. Let's see how close I can
get...
In the years after 9/11, France did not support the invasion of Iraq and
the conservative bloggers and talk radio crowd went crazy on them for it.
Some conservatives in Congress started referring to "freedom fries"
instead of french fries. These attackers then came up with something on
the French that would stick: The French hadn't managed to defend their
country against the Nazis in WWII. We had to save them, it is said, so
they owe us. Supposedly the French cave in easily, are weak and need our
protection -- that's the conservative talking point on France. It's a
country of sniveling, dependent weaklings who think their great food and
high culture make them better than us. Pansies! They only exist because
we let them exist!
Given what we know now about the greatness of the Iraq war and occupation
and all the wonderous things it has done for our country, the French must
be really embarrassed. What a huge mistake they were making! How could
they have thought to question our claim about WMD? They are just sooo
arrogant.
