Well Mike, it is pretty hard to blame the failure of a 50 year old
bridge on the policies of the last person in office.
(It was 40 years old.) The thing is, the last person in office was the
one who wasn't maintaining the bridge to the point that it came crashing
down. It's the job of our state department of transportation to protect
us and they failed to do it. The governor was not providing sufficient
funding.
That goes with the presidency as well. Can the 2001 attack even be
blamed on Bush at all? Sure the liberals will do so, but I still
maintain that 9 months in office could be argued to be not enough time
to even forumate a plan to protect us that would have passed muster of
the American people.
You really haven't read much about this, have you?
What regulations did Clinton put into place to protect us from the .com
bubble burst. What regulations did he put into place during his tenure
to fund highways and bridges in your state?
You might be surprised to hear this (for the millionth time) but I
actually want you to attack Democrats. Why not? We should be very
skeptical of all politicians and we should ride their asses constantly.
The thing that is disturbing to me is the adulation for a politician that
persists despite all kinds of evidence that it is not deserved.
I don't know what Clinton did about these things. Let me know if you find
out.
The poit is that everyone is happy when they are making money, whether
that is investing in savings and loans, .com industries are investing in
bad mortgages, but we get our panties all wadded up when something bad
goes on and we want to lash out to whoever is in charge at that moment.
The thing with bridge maintenance is that everyone is happy not to pay for
it right up until the damned thing falls down. It is the job of state
officials to be sure that the bridge will not fall. It doesn't matter if
the people don't want to pay. A decent leader will make it happen.
Interesting case in point was Jerry Davis here in California. He was
governor here and was recalled in part because of his handling of the
energy crisis out here. In retrospect it was not entirely his fault, but
he took the blunt of the criticism and was recalled.
Gray Davis?
That was really crazy, wasn't it? I guess it proves that enough money can
topple a governor:
