I am surprised that there are democrats calling for him to step down.
Other than the possibility that he was taking money from the people of
New York to pay for the serfvices, I see this is mainly a victimless
crime. I find it interesting that Clinton could do what he did in the
oval office and have democrats all over the country support him through
it, but then to turn on this guy the way they are.
By having sexual contact with Monica Lewinsky, Bill Clinton was not
committing a crime. But when Spitzer paid for sex with a prostitute, he
was committing a crime. It's worse that he used to prosecute prostitution
rings and made a big deal of his indignation. Most democrats don't want
criminals or otherwise dishonest people representing them.
I am also somewhat surprised that Mike would be calling for an
investigation. If it is found that he was spending his own money for the
services being paid for, would that change your opinion about him? Would
you then support him? I wonder what MoveOn.org has to say about it,
would they think we should just "move on"?
I don't think MoveOn is saying anything yet, which seems wise. My opinion
of him will depend on the result of an inquiry because if he was taking
bribes, he should go to prison, but if he was just blowing his own money,
that's a lot different.
What the hell is wrong with him? That's a question that probably won't be
answered but for me this uncertainty about his character is the best
reason to get him out of office even if he was spending only his own
money. How could he not have known that this outcome was inevitable? He
must be pretty self-destructive and reckless and we should protect
ourselves from him.
