OK: so how many of you out there knew there even *was* a Segway dealer
in Columbia? I knew there was, but I always thought that was about the
wackiest retail idea for the market I had ever heard of.
They have one here near the downtown. The owner makes almost all of his
money from tours -- put a bunch of people on Segways and roll around the
historic areas. I talked to the owner once and he said that the profit
margin was absurdly low for the sellers -- maybe it was 10%? Something
like that, maybe worse. He didn't think he could expect to make a living
selling Segways even in the Twin Cities. Columbia? Who would even think
of such a thing?!
