Once again, it is about the fact that hype sells. Hype up the incident and people will buy the paper,  tune into the broadcast and so on.
 
What disturbs me more, but seems to be the norm is how the administration seems to get their information from the news sources and runs with it. One would think the Pentagon would have breifed Bush on the incident.
 
PLaying advocate though, even a small show of force like this reminds us that Iran is not an ally and Bush's remarks were not out of context.

I guess the original story was exciting and a good draw.  No news agency
wants to retract or modify a report.  That would be like announcing
"sometimes are stories are wrong" or "we tell you things as if they were
true even when we aren't really sure."  How does that work with their
"business model?"  And so it goes.
