I just read this article:

This part caught my eye:
Despite Cosgriff's account, which contradicted earlier Pentagon
portrayals of the incident as a confrontation, not a single news outlet
modified its earlier characterisation of the incident.
I guess the original story was exciting and a good draw. No news agency
wants to retract or modify a report. That would be like announcing
"sometimes are stories are wrong" or "we tell you things as if they were
true even when we aren't really sure." How does that work with their
"business model?" And so it goes.
