Right. It was playing out a lot differently this time around.
4) The VHS/BetaMax war kept on going because one party kept on pouring
money down a hole, and it's not clear to me that this was going to
happen again because for most players (the media companies) the actual
choice of format makes no difference other than they would like to be
making just one as soon as possible.
So maybe companies now making HD-DVDs will quit doing so and will start
making Blu-ray discs? If so, that will be decisive.
In any case, I'm not going to be buying a player until NetFlix has
enough titles for this to be useful.
Same here, and also I'll need a better TV. I was looking at a Sony HD set
playing a Blu-ray disc in the store the other day. It was pretty amazing.
I'm still satisfied with what I have though. If I start watching HD, it
will be hard to stand ordinary TV anymore.
