The problem can easily be rectified by imposing stiff fines and enforcement on employers to prove that the people they hire are legal residents. To stop illegal immigration both on over stayed visas and illegals crossing the border this will resolve the problem. There is a law right now up in one of the border states, (arizona?) that would require every employer to verify that information.

I mostly agree with you on this. The Republican party represents mostly wealthy people and businesses and they sometimes like to hire illegal immigrants because of the low wages, so the Republicans don't want to do what you suggest.

For security reasons we should control both borders, but it is going to be
hard to do.

To say the least. They are huge borders. Just covering the areas near cities will help, probably enough to push terrorists to find other ways -- like use of boats, fake documents, whatever. My main point is this: Completely and totally blocking our borders will have minimal effect on risk of terrorist attack.
