Bash coding is handy but something of a necessary evil. It's got some pretty fscked up syntax IMO. :) It can come in handy though as sometimes it's just easier to make do what you want than Perl or Python. Taking advantage of command-line tools you already know can save you a lot of coding time.

I can see that you know some good bash coding tricks that I don't know, so
I'm sure I'll read that script and study some of those techniques.  I've
decided that bash scripting is one of the things that is worth my time to
learn in more depth.  It's very handy to be good at that.
