ummm, aren't the raw files proof enough (.cr2 in the case of canon, not sure about the others), or the camera that goes with the memory card? The metadata in the raw photo usually contains date and camera information, at least from what I have seen through my interaction with Lightroom and Portfolio (there is a powertoy for windows that lets you view the files now, not sure about linux as I don't support it at work, officially). Just my 2 cents worth.
