I was a finalist in a local chamber of commerce contest for business ideas. I was suggesting a company that would build eCom sites for local businesses, handle billing and delivery for them, handle integrating with their inventory systems, and create a virtual mall that would capture traffic for all local businesses and make them all searchable from one place. I didn't win - they thought people wouldn't really shop online from local businesses even given cheap, same day, delivery.

I still think it's a very workable business idea. You can get the benefits of shopping online and shopping from a local brick and mortar all in one place so why not use it? Heck, people are ordering toilets and shower stalls from me online so I think I could sell darn near anything and get it delivered.

OK.  Here you go!

I think it is definitely a good idea to buy locally unless the difference
in price is excessive.  That's what I do.
