I'm a little confused about this. The article is from 2005, but I remember hearing back around that time that there would be no dual-format player. Development was being blocked somehow. Now I see this in the news:

Which says that Samsung's dual player costs $999. This despite the fact that you could buy both a Blu-ray player and an HD-DVD player for about $500. So what good is a dual player? It takes up less space? It is selling now:

The same thing will happen with these formats. You will likely have dual format players first, and then dual format burners later on. In fact, I found this on a quick search.

I am not buying either format this time. I am waiting until I can get a dual format player before I buy anything.
