So you are "living proof" (to use your term), like Clarence Thomas, that
"government handouts" (wasn't that also your term?) can be a great help to
young people who are trying to make something of themselves.

I think Clarence Thomas is the best person to be able to say that affirmative action is not helping. I think Clarence has the "Don't feed the bears" concept at heart. A new study by a professer at UCLA claims that 70% of blacks who get into law school under affirmative action are not academically ready to be in the program. Isn't that exactly what feeding the bears is all about?

But we are getting way off topic, we are not talking about a poor southern black kid growing up when segregation and racism was the way of the land that needed help getting into college, we are talking about people who have $500,000 in assets but who happen to be able to manipulate the system to get their health care needs covered by the rest of us.

As far as me being living proof, yeah, I guess I am living proof in that I took a couple of grants that amounted to $4,000 over two years to go to a technical school. Yes, I guess I am guilty of taking out student loans to pay for the rest of my schooling?

Am I a dead weight? Well, I don't think I am, at least I applied myself, I changed careers and now I am making good, I am paying the loans back which a lot of people find ways to not do, and instead of being a drain on the system because of my low income, I am now paying higher amounts of taxes.
