to turn it off.
All money is created by states. Apparently, back when FDR was president,
any income over $3,000,000 per annum was taxed at a rate of 90%. Sounds
like a good idea. That worked well and the middle class grew rapidly.
Hold on a second
If I remember my history correctly FDR because president during the great depression. There was no middle class at that time and to bring the country out of Depression, he was forced to increase government spending. At that time, the only people who had money was the rich.
It can and probably should be argued that the middle class did not find an explosion until World War 2 broke out and in the years following the war. There are a lot of other reasons for the explosion of the middle class, least of which would be the 90% taxation of those making over 3 million dollars a year.
Increased goods for the war effort and the return of millions of servicemen to the US after the war with money in their pocket did more to expand the middle class than the tax and spend approach that FDR instituted. If it was the tax and spend that led to the growth of the middle class, would that not have made us a socialist country? I find it hard to believe any historian would say that a redistribution of wealth is what led to the increase of the middle class.
Do you want to live in a country with a strong middle class, or would you
prefer to live in a country with a small number of very wealthy and a
large number of poor? The future distribution of wealth in our country is
determined by the tax laws of today. We can become more like Scandinavia
or more like Latin America.
I want to personally live in a country where hard work and determination pays off. In most other nations in the world this is not possible. This is what makes the US so unique and why so many people in other countries want to come here.
Why would a person make a bad choice?
Why do people smoke, drink excessively, quit school? There are bad decisions made by people everyday and often in spite of other people giving them good advice. Why would a person make a bad decision? You are going to have to ask someone with more acronyms behind their name than I do.
Why would anyone do such things?
See above.
Why don't people take advantage of opportunities such as these?
I don't know, but they are out there, all one has to do is make a choice to get after it. I have to admit that I made some bad decisions, and I am still making them today. I think we can all point to times in our life where we made a decision that was not smart.
I can say that there are opportunities out there. I am living proof that there are ways to go to school, get loans and support to go to school. I went back to school and am one and half classes away from getting my masters degree. I have picked myself up from having no money, living practically homeless out of a garage to being financially comfortable. Do I have room to go? Yes, and if I can avoid making any more bad decisions, I might be able to scrounge up enough money to retire one of these days.
Why did I make bad decisions? Who knows, I asked myself many times if I could have done things differently, I know I could have.
Why isn't everyone "logic driven?"
I don't know the answer to this myself, but so many democrats are driven by emotion in their decision making process.
