I've read a bit about this, but I didn't see any details on the response

Krugman's attack on the Dems for putting a 12 year old in the middle of
partisan politics? There is no defense for the Republicans attacking the
kid or his family (of course there is rarely a defense for any
politician), but the Democrats really should be better behaved than to
put children and their families in the spotlight in political debates.
Have you ever heard of a "poster child?" So you are literally saying that
children and their families should not be "in the spotlight" in a debate
about how children and families should be treated by health-care
legislation? Who should be in the spotlight then? HMOs? Physicians?
Look, it's about the children, so the children are the focus. If you're
going to promote a system that helps children, you have to show what
happens to children when that system fails.
And for the record, I'm an opponent of socialized health care in general
but a proponent of socialized child health care. The son should not pay
for the sin of his father and so forth.
You could have done a better job.
