I've got a couple of WRT54Gs (ver 3) that I've been playing with using
the DD-WRT firmware. It's some pretty snazzy stuff.

Due to some of the issues with the "Client bridge"(router becomes a
wireless ethernet bridge for it's 4 switchports) setting on DD-WRT, I'm
considering the HyperWRT firmware, but just haven't had time to play
with it yet.

Either the new 54GL or any of the older models (some of the require some
fancy footwork to get the firmware upgraded) are a pretty good option
for some sort of router/monitoring combo, as they're going to use way
less power and are pretty capable little boxes with the 3rd party
firmware.

it will get in practice.
