These aren't really long enough to qualify as reviews. Both are on DVD.

I saw "Disturbia" last night. They definitely did a good job of upping
the tension and suspense. It has some good parts for sure. I thought
they were a little cheap in the way that they stole ideas from other
films. The father-son "moment" with the obvious Coke product placement
was a low point. All-in-all, it's a great movie if you are looking
for something in the horror/suspense genre.

I saw "The Lives of Others" a couple of days ago (a.k.a., "Das Leben der
Anderen", German with subtitles). It was brilliant. I knew it would be
good because it beat "Pan's Labyrinth" for the Oscar this year.
It is about East German Stassi secret police surveillance operations about
5 years before the wall came down. It has some unexpected twists with
people doing things you might not expect, but the characters are totally
consistent -- you just thought you knew them and you were mistaken. It's
not really that the film fools you into thinking a certain way about the
characters. It's more that in this film, as in real life, you get to know
people in stages and you can easily get the wrong idea. But some people
remain just what they appeared to be at first.
