OK, thanks for the clarification. In the world of politics I would say that this explanation is reasonable sounding enough to be plausible.

 

I cannot blame Bush for making his statements, but I can clearly see where you are coming from now.

I wouldn't have thought Bush was "behind" it in the sense that he had
someone make it.  One of the newspaper articles I sent named an American
working in Pakistan as the likely source.  They probably have that right
-- or at least they seem to know what they are talking about and the idea
makes sense.

Here's what I think Bush's role could be:  (1) capitalize on the occassion
by suggesting that we should all unite in fear behind our leader (he
already did that) and that we should continue to fight in Iraq (he said
that too), and (2) tell the CIA not to announce that the tape is a fraud
until they can say exactly where it came from, how it was obtained, etc.,
or some other constraint to delay the revelation that it is a fraud.  I
think they know it is a fraud and they aren't saying so because Bush is
finding this a very convenient opportunity.
