Mike,
Ok, let's try it this way:
The politicians of today have nowhere near the moral standing and honor
of the people from 2 centuries ago. The reasons for the revolutionary
war was best described thusly:
"Much more than a revolt against British taxes and trade
regulations, the American Revolution was the first modern revolution. It
marked the first time in history that a people fought for their
independence in the name of certain universal principles such as rule of
law, constitutional rights, and popular sovereignty." -

The reasons for today's "wars" are for personal gain, or so it seems.
And I do believe some would send their kids to fight in war, if it would
make them enough money, political favor, etc.
I can only point to the different causes and effects of said wars
(Revolutionary v. Iraq) to bring forth the fallacious basis of your
response. One was a fight for their very future while the other is a
fight to gain power, money, oil, etc. I also found it somewhat specious
to say they (the founding fathers) would send their children to war when
they themselves were fighting in it already.
Rather pitiful to degrade this debate into one with an ad populum streak
with sophist views...
