OK, so we're now planning to drop the land-line and go cellular. Only my
wife needs a "good" phone; kids are kids and should feel lucky to have
anything, and I will probably be using a Blackberry, as things turn out.
I've been using my old Treo 600 for almost 4 years now. It still works as
well as ever. I dropped the land line about that long ago. I like that
it uses Palm OS because things tend to work well with Palm OS. Google has
developed Gmail and Google Maps apps for it, and they are really sweet.
Whatever you get, see if it will work with Gmail and Google Maps.
I was also using the camera with Google's Blogspot -- I'd email the photo
with a little text to a certain address and it would automagically make a
little blog entry that I could edit later:

Haven't done it in a while but it used to be way cool.
Another cool thing with the Treo: I use it to play MP3 files and it
sounds quite good. Put a little card in it, load it up with tunes, and
all you need is a little MP3 player (they threw in pTunes for free and it
works great).
