Clearly, reddit is an excellent way to get people to see your web page.
Unfortunately, people can write outrageous or inaccurate comments and
these sometimes get pushed to the top because when people write to
correct them, the comment gives them some points. More clearly wrong
means more corrections and more points and you get your baloney pushed
to the top of the list. I hope they'll fix that.
People can post anonymously, and they do so. They seem averse to
telling us *anything* about their background and expertise, or lack
thereof, but they are very willing claim great certainty about their
ideas. It's a way for losers to show off. If I get on reddit.com
again, I will ignore the stupid comments. Unfortunately, that might not
solve the problem and the very stupidest comment of all might be found
right at the top of the list.
Two more things that I don't like about reddit:
People can return to change their postings after you have replied to them.
Scenario: Someone writes something stupid. You reply to it. They change
it and leave you looking a bit out of place. I think that is a bad system
because it means that if you link to a comment and tell someone "hey look
at this," well, it might have been changed by the time they see it. It
should not work that way -- it should be like an email list where comments
come in and they stay there. If someone wants to edit his comment, he
should write another comment to be stored right next to the original.
Similarly, if you reply to someone, your post appears immediately beneath
theirs at first, but it can move later to be pretty far away. Maybe it's
still threaded correctly but it isn't easy to tell what you were
responding to. You have to be aware of that when writing a reply.
