I have flown out of Columbia twice over the last 5 years and to be
perfectly honest I wont do it again. Being able to fly to Chicago
might do something for the image of Columbia but it will never be
financially viable for most people.

Right now I can fly to Chicago from St.Louis for $123 round trip and
it would cost me about $20 to drive to St.Louis. So I can fly
roundtrip to Chicago for $140.  Last time I flew out of COU it cost
that much just to get to St.Louis to catch a connecting flight.

My guess is that they will find someone to take the $2,000,000 and
offer flights for around $200 roundtrip until their contract is up.
Then someone will say... "If Columbia only offered flights to
Dallas/Memphis/Little Rock it would be so beneficial for the city" and
they will ante up another couple of million dollars.

Columiba is cursed with easy access to I-70 so it will never have
viable air travel as an option.
