I don't know for how long it has been working like this, but if you do a
"directions" in Google Maps, and it chooses a route that you don't like,
you can drag the route and reposition it.
Example: For a route I just put in, which runs north-south, there is an
eastern road and a western road, but Google Maps chose the western one...

So I just put my mouse cursor on the middle of the route and dragged it
toward the east and it gave me what I wanted:

What it is doing is letting you choose an additional destination by
dragging, but that destination could be a highway you want to take. I
really like the way it works.
