Interesting -- what does that service provide that you wouldn't get from
satellite? If it would allow users to choose any show that ran in the
past several days, that would really be something. Pogue wrote the other
day that there is a company in Italy that's doing just that.
Unfortunately, the U.S. is lagging behind many other nations
technologically.
It is disappointing that we have not yet seen more and better
competition in niches like this.
I'll bet the carriers have been working very hard to stop progress toward
these kinds of systems. For example, I'll bet they wouldn't let Palm make
a Treo with WiFi. Everyone wanted WiFi and it was a surprise when the
Treo came out without WiFi, but someone on this list, I think, pointed out
that Sprint has a lot of power over Palm's choices and they don't want
people using their phones with WiFi.
