So you think that he might believe that being Vice President would hurt
his chances at winning the Presidency?
I'm not sure being *Bush's* vice-president would be very valuable,
because Bush's popularity is extremely low overall and even
surprisingly low among Republicans (last I saw, I believe he was under
60% approval among Republicans in one poll.)
That said, there is a lot of inside-the-beltway talk about ditching
Cheney, who combines being spectacularly unpopular with amazingly
strong influence and having a truly horrible track record in providing
counsel. The man apparently really *does* think we should
pre-emptively attack Iran *and* that this will solve all of our
problems in the Mid-East. We have not yet to this date ever had a
systematic problem with the military obeying orders from their
civilian commanders, but ordering something like this could change
that.
