Libby was convicted of two counts of making false statements when interviewed by federal investigators, and two counts of perjury in his testimony before the grand jury. Why did he do that? One of his false claims was that Tim Russert told him about Plame, but Libby had talked with several other people about Plame before talking to Russert. Apparently, Cheney had told Libby before Libby talked to Russert, but this is one of the things that Libby claims not to recall.

Libby's was the first indictment of a sitting White House official in 130 years and it happened with a Republican Executive, Republican House and Republican Senate. I think there is something to it.
