From your description, that boss doesn't sound like an ******, not at
all. He sounds simply like a hard boss. It looks like he has high
expectations, but makes his expectations very clear. While he might not
be pleasant to work for, he does sound like he might even be very
effective as a boss. Being a boss is not a popularity contest, but
about getting your employees to work effectively.
What really stinks are those slimeballs who don't communicate their
expectations, and then when you screw up (or rather when they perceive
that you screw up, or even when they fabricate that you screw up),
instead of approaching you and helping you to correct the problem, they
talk about you behind your back, and then fire you out of the blue. My
guess is that this is the situation that Jennifer is describing.
That kind of boss is not only a jerk, but actually is a great detriment
to the business. In particular, if you have been a hard working and
dedicated employee, and then get treated this way, the loss of morale
affects everyone, not just the person being fired. Basically people
learn that the way to get ahead in that business is to be a yes-man
rather than to do the good job quietly and effectively. Soon all the
best people will either have been fired or will have left of their own
accord, and shortly after that the business goes down the tubes.

I don't know where that's coming from. They don't have to
try. They are
clueless people who have almost no awareness of the feelings and
perspectives of people around them.
I guess I have been lucky, the closest I have ever come to working for
someone who is an asshole was a boss that I worked for, for almost 10
years. The guy was one of the best employers to work for, but when you
screwed up, there was a price to be paid. For me it was more about
understanding how he wanted things done and then doing it that way.
Does that make him an asshole? Not really, it makes him a person who has
put his future and name on the line to start a business, and then works
very hard to maintain it. He knew that his way worked and if you
departed from his way, you had better come out with a superior result,
or you were going to end up doing it his way.
A lot of other people worked for him prior to me, and all of them called
him an asshole, I worked for him for almost 10 years and still consider
him a dear friend.

No, that's not what this is about. Here are some hints:

I looked at that link, and while I do not doubt there are those like
that out there, I found that BLOG mostly comical in nature.
