I don't know where that's coming from.  They don't have to try.  They are
clueless people who have almost no awareness of the feelings and
perspectives of people around them.
 
I guess I have been lucky, the closest I have ever come to working for someone who is an asshole was a boss that I worked for, for almost 10 years. The guy was one of the best employers to work for, but when you screwed up, there was a price to be paid. For me it was more about understanding how he wanted things done and then doing it that way.
 
Does that make him an asshole? Not really, it makes him a person who has put his future and name on the line to start a business, and then works very hard to maintain it. He knew that his way worked and if you departed from his way, you had better come out with a superior result, or you were going to end up doing it his way.
 
A lot of other people worked for him prior to me, and all of them called him an asshole, I worked for him for almost 10 years and still consider him a dear friend.
