Never trust any employer. My experience has been that most jobs end up
sucking not because of the job itself but because someone in management
is an asshole that ruins things for everyone eventually. It seems almost
every company has it's supply of inept management zombies that have to
micro manage everything, use people as scrap goats for their own lack of
skill, or just act like jerks in general.
I'm lucky that my current employer is really cool, actually seems to
know what he is doing, and is confident enough to let his employees
manage their own areas of expertise so long as they're getting their job
done. I just hope it isn't like my last employer where the cool guy, who
was actually getting stuff done with me, quit and I was left with the
inept horrible boss of the other kind.
I hate that as highly skilled as I am, I still constantly worry about
getting fired through no fault of my own. I feel like I need to always
have two jobs and my own business so I'm never left totally up shit
creek. Employees shouldn't have to constantly stress about their employment.
I've just been "let go". I've been basically "fired" well not really
fired, but told to leave and never come back by my boss (who actually
really likes me!) and his boss... because of fucking politics. I
worked at a networking company that does networks and such for
Convention Centers, all over the country. I worked in the NOC as a
network engineer. I rather enjoyed my job. And I learned A LOT. But I
got dragged into and made the political fodder of one particular
butthead at one of our facilities. Somehow it is my fault that he
doens't know his network, and doesn't keep his equipment online at all
times.
I just wanted to say that, why do all the good people get punished and
the assholes get to stay?? This guy has alienated every ONE of our
engineers, and has basically more than half the company pissed off at
him, YET he is still in his job and giving EVERYONE a hard time. It
saddens me to leave because i have become such great friends with my
co-workers and even most of the guys in the field. I got a wonderful
complement when i called our guy from LA (he was in fresno helping at
the time) and he was happy to hea rmy voice and give him a hand. And
just people like Him and others in the field made the job so nice! I
helped them, and they were happy. And even when i had trouble helping
them, they never bitched atme... I eventually solved it. Some problems
are not easy to pinpoint when you are NOT actually on location.
Anyways... i'll shut up now. I feel like i've been ripped and torn
arpart from my best friends, and just feel broken hearted. Everyone
gave me a hug today, when iwent back to ge tmy books and things. It was
really nice having a job I liked, where I learned a lot, and where I
realy loved everyone I worked with! (well not EVERYONE :P) but everyone
immidiately around me (my fellow NOC engineers)
At least they will keep me posted on the developments!
