My impression of recent trends is that the new value is "getting ahead." It used to be that we believed in something bigger than self-promotion -- things like integrity and the good of the community. We would see judges influenced by campaign contributions as very shameful, completely unacceptable. It has nothing to do with Christianity, of course, because almost any moral tradition holds these values. Why are we letting things go these days?
