I am not sure it works this way, but if it does then their site is misleading. For instance everywhere on the site it says the monthly DOWNLOAD limit is 1 gigabyte. Now this to me would mean that uploading does not count against your total. Which would make sense because you would not want to have a situation where people were doing warez and soaking up the bandwidth on the site.
They also have a file size limit. On the free version, the largest file you can download is 10MB. Now maybe they will let you upload a file larger than that, but then not let you download the file unless you pay for an upgrade. That would certainly be a way to coax more business out of your customers and I could see a company doing something like that.
You know though, I would pay the $4.95 per month to have that kind of storage. I paid almost that per month for my image hosting company that later for shutdown. I have Picasa now, but Picasa as far as I know will not let you do non-image type files as well. I have been using my Gmail account for backing up those important documents that I do not want to risk losing.
