Nevertheless, I really don't see why we cannot make parallel efforts.  I
did read recently a commentary on the Fox News web site that said that
the billionaires who give mounds of money to stop global warming should
instead spend their money on helping the poor.  But frankly, I think
each billionaire has the right to spend his money as he sees fit.

This is at the heart of one of the things I have been wanting to bring up. I hope this does not hijack Stephen's thread though.

He makes a point here about how those with money should help the poor more. Some of the most affluent people in this country are the very same ones who are most vocal about Global Warming.

I find it interesting that Al Gore lives in a very large home whice consumes 20 times more energy than the average home in this country.

This is not an isolated phenomena either, a great many of the Hollywood folks do the same thing. Barbara Streisand travels in her own huge recreational vehicle, supposedly because she does not like the thought of using a public restroom.

Ed Bagely is one of the key examples of someone who really has his mind on straight in this matter,  and he is almost a laughing stock in Hollywood. His reality show more or less presents him in psychotic light if you have ever seen it.

As I have said before, leadership has to start somewhere. How hypocritical is it to lay a guilt trip on the American public about their power consumption while your own house uses far more than any other individual home?
