The other reason I feel defensive towards Bill O'Reilly is that I have 
actually experienced this some of this rather closer to home.  About five 
years ago, my work place became a hot bed of rough and tumble politics. 
The behind the back gossip that went on was through the roof, and quite a 
large amount of very plausible stories turned out to be completely untrue. 
Having seen very innocent people put through this kind of junk, it pains 
me to see it done to other people.  Of course, sometimes it turns out that 
it really was the truth.  But quite often the accusations are 
counter-accusations to distract attention from previous accusations which 
were actually true.  The whole thing becomes very difficult, and it takes 
a great deal of discernment.  The other problem is that human weaknesses, 
which normally wouldn't get noticed, get blown up out of all proportion. 
And it's not like you can just escape the whole thing by staying out of 
the accusation business, because some wrong doing really does take place, 
and has to be addressed.  It is really hard to be on the front lines in 
politics, and I have learned to admire those that do, and overlook many of 
their smaller weaknesses.
