I think this is where we have a good point of how a reasonable argument
should proceed. You have good evidence that shows he was registered
Republican at a certain date and time. You cannot guess his motives
based solely on this. You have to then have him explain him self. You
can then evaluate this on the basis of his response.
If I remember correctly, and I am sorry for not having a specific
citation for this, his defense to this evidence is that he could have
registered Independent, but Independents could not vote in the primaries
he wanted to vote in. He wanted to vote in the primaries. A lot of
people will register with one party or another and vote across party
lines. So registering Republican or Democrat is more of a technicality
than any thing else. Maybe he was just more interested in the primary
race between Republicans. Maybe his political leanings have changed over
the years. I know of a lot of Independent minded people who used to be
registered Republicans. He also claims later that they had trouble
processing his change form when he finally submitted it. I've had
paperwork messed up and delayed like that before. These are very
plausible reasons.
So, the next step would be to prove his statements in response to this
as incorrect. Were there Independent candidates available in the
primaries for his district? Did he really not submit the change form for
his voter registration?
It all really seams kind of petty and personal, unless you have an
overwhelming desire to tear the guy to shreds. What is the source of
such hatred? Sure, some people don't like him, but to foster hate like
that is just bad.
