A geeky emergency ice-cleat... good old zip ties with the "knuckle" down to be used a single cleat.... They will work for about 10 minutes and eventually break apart (cary extras) but, for the short term they work in a pinch...

I heard a phrase that covers the idiot drivers (bad weather or not):

"The quality of moron increases exponentially every day"

;)

P.S. Hope your sis gets to feeling better!

I got to go home at 2 PM today because of the ice storm we're beginning to have.

My mom and sister are in DC right now because my sister just had one of her parathyroids removed at the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center. She didn't have health insurance so she found an NIH research project that did it for her for free! It's only about a 20 minute procedure, but they did a bunch of additional tests and measures and kept her there for a few days. My mom mentioned that she might not be able to get to the hospital from her hotel to visit my sister today because of the ice storm -- she thought the buses might not run.
