Granted this advise may not apply, but in 3 of our 4 shih-tzus, their ears get nasty and full of gook and so itchy that they rub their faces on the carpet/ground/snow and scratch themselves bloody around the ears if we feed them the more expensive, more digestible, better for you Lamb and Rice types of dogfood. It was also a hell of a smell in their ears. (we also have to pull their ear hair out *sigh*, which is absolutely no fun for them or for us).

However, when we switched them back to the normal beef, corn meal, and by-products, it cleared right up.

Very odd since most exclusion diets where you cut your entire diet to a couple of things (especially trying to have those be things you don't normally eat, like lamb), they have you do lamb and rice as your staples.... this often pinpoints food allergies for things like fibromyalgia, chronic hives, etc... and then you add things back in gradually until you find out what substance provokes a response.

I'm not suggesting that your ear hair needs pulling out and that you should try a different kibble, but allergies, especially food allergies can account for your issues. Also, if your ears are habitually dry and itch for that reason, try a little Vaseline intensive care lotion on the tip of the q-tip to see if it helps. If you have other issues, you might try an exclusion diet to isolate what might be giving you troubles.

Back to the nose-picking thing and you two 'fessing up..... I work making software for ED & BD children. Occasionally there will be a scenario in there in one of the examples for our behavior modification tools that touches on the sins of nose-picking.... It just makes me want to scream. I'm no psychiatrist/ologist, but I know for a fact that this type of thing can do enormous damage for the kid to be raised to wonder if they are some sort of deviant, and just not be able to stop themselves when truth be told, and undefined but huge majority of the population does it and we're naturally built this way.

Kids have enough difficulties w/o this crap. I hate all the body-shame that is taught to little girls that make their lives and their marriages less than the joy God established them to be. I hate even more the religion of circumcision (for non religious reasons), which mutilates our children to discourage masturbation and other emotional evils and psychosis. I have a rather unique viewpoint on this one such that I can testify and answer a lot of questions that people 'think' they know the answer to w/o really 'knowing'. Boy the psychiatry/ology of the 50s and 60s has a lot to atone for

Actually, my allergy doctor seriously told me to stop picking my nose. He said that it does contribute to the serious sinus problems I have. Unfortunately, try as hard as I can, I am totally unable to comply!

Truth be told: I couldn't do it either. If you just keep your fingers clean, how does it cause problems for your nose? I would think the nose would like to be cleaned out.

I had a doctor tell me that the cure to making my ears stop itching was to stop using q-tips to clean my ears. He was wrong. At least the q-tips bring some relief from itching (which is occasional and not persistent).
