Disclaimer: if you'd destroyed or shattered your notebook by using my
idea, I would not have been responsible. But, given that it worked, I
am happy to bask in the glory. :-) It did work for me in the past
however. I only tried this after I reasoned about how these notebooks
were put together, and the fact that there didn't seem to be any
pieces that could (say) bend in the middle if you really leaned over
it hard.
Come on now, I live in California now. I'm sure I could have found at least one
judge to side with me. ;) We are about to outlaw lightbulbs after all.

So how would you describe that sound? :-)
Honestly, I'd like to see what they screw these in with at the
factory. The screw heads
looked to be in perfect condition. I just can't imagine a machine
could over-torque them
that much with a Phillips head and not strip them some going in.
As for replacement screws...I'm not so sure I'd go to the Apple store
for them. I might try a high-end hobby store, or somebody who does a
lot of notebook repairs. Let me get back to you on the PC2700 DIMM.
The Apple store said they can't sell them and only had one set in th
store so they couldn't give me any. So I'll begin the lookout for
replacements at odd places.
