Indeed. People are generally quite willing to accept what they think
is a sincere apology, and cover-ups and the like almost always do more
damage than they save. Clinton's "I didn't inhale" was clearly a case
of him trying way too hard to make what he did seem less important or
wrong. And that almost never works, even if you're Bill Clinton.
