Barak has other more significant issues to overcome before he is elected, or even gets the nomination.
First, he is a northerner, he will have some difficulty in the south and even more difficulty there because he is black.
He is also relatively new to the world of politics, this might be a good thing for him and certainly would be a great thing if he had a more recognizable name.
He has to raise money, what kinds of connections can he pull in to raise the kind of money required to run for president?
His family has to be willing to go through all of this with him, does his wife have the fortitude to be able to stand in front of cameras, be without her husband and so on? Those are questions any candidate's family has to ask, but for someone like Hilary Clinton or Joe Biden, that is second nature having been around politics so long.
Does he have the support from the DNC? I could see the DNC strategizing with him and telling him to ride the wave for a few more years and not running. Maybe this never happens, but I would be surprised if it doesn't.
I am not the only one asking these questions, and I think even Barak himself is doing to searching at this point. He has not officially announced his candidacy, he still has an out on February 10th. I think he will run, but I think he has a pretty tough uphill climb for the nomination and even more of one to make the presidency.

Makes sense. We'll be watching what happens.

Which makes you wonder what the motivation was behind that ridiculous
scandal. Maybe it was just a rush to be first, but it was sloppy
journalism.

Same here. (Can you believe that?!) I do have his new book though and I
might read some of it one of these days. I think he is a good writer.
