I simply don't see how this is a liability for Obama. It shows that he has faced the hurdles that many youth in this country face, and has come out the other side battered and bruised, but stronger for having faced his failings.

It will hurt him just a little. If he had never done it, he'd be better off. People want a President who is a good role model for their kids. They don't want their kids to snort cocaine.

Actually what I think the swing voter really hates in a politician is disingenuousness. Kerry and Clinton have this in spades. I mean, Kerry really was the flip-flop candidate - I don't think that was mere electioneering, and Clinton with her many stances on the war is heading the same direction. Obama, on the other hand, comes across, at least on first impression, as a man who says what he believes and believes what he says.

I think Bill Clinton's "I didn't inhale" disingenuous remark hurt him. I don't know how Hillary's war stance will affect her campaign - all of America follows a similar pattern of initial acceptance of the war followed by eventual rejection.

I know very little about Obama, but when I heard him speak at the Democratic Presidential Nomination, I was extremely impressed. Right now, all I have against him is that he speaks unfavorably of Bush, but then again so does practically everybody else, so it is a mistake I can easily forgive.

I don't think the Republican candidate for President in 2008 will be making many positive comments about Bush. Bush's approval rating is very low. He is blamed for the big loss of seats in the House and Senate, so he isn't popular with many congressman of his own party.

This is one reason a Republican will have a hard time winning the presidency this time: Bush can't really help them much. Usually the sitting president can do more to help his favorite candidate.
